I mentioned earlier that efficiency will not be your friend if you are trying to increase your level of intelligence. Unfortunately, many things in life are designed to increase efficiency. Thus, we do more, while spending less time, physical and mental efforts. However, this does not have a beneficial effect on your brain.
Take one object of modern convenience, GPS. GPS is an amazing invention. I am among those people for whom GPS was invented. I am terribly poor in orienting myself on the terrain. I'm lost all the time. Therefore, I thanked fate for the advent of GPS. But you know what?
Using GPS for a short time, I found that my sense of orientation became even worse. When it was not at my fingertips, I felt even more lost than before. Therefore, when I moved to Boston - the city where horror films about stray come from - I stopped using GPS.

I won’t lie - my suffering knew no bounds. My new job involved traveling around the outskirts of Boston, and I lost at least 4 weeks every day. I was so often lost and wandered as long as I thought that I would lose my job due to chronic delays (they even complained about me in writing).
But over time, I began to find the right path thanks to the vast navigational experience that I gained with just the brain and map. I really began to feel where and what is in Boston thanks exclusively to logic and memory, not GPS. I still remember how proud I was that I found a hotel in the city center where my friend stayed, starting from the name and description of the area - even without an address! I had the feeling that I was graduating from a navigational education school.
Technology makes our life easier, faster, more efficient in many ways, but sometimes our cognitive abilities can suffer as a result of such simplifications and harm us in the future. Before everyone starts yelling and sending emails to my transhuman friends that I am sinning against technology, I must warn you that this is not at all what I am doing.

Look at it this way: when you go to work by car, it takes less physical effort, time, and this is a more convenient and enjoyable way than walking. Everything seems to be fine. But if you just ride or spend your whole life on a Segway, not even short distances, then you will not waste energy. Over time, your muscles will atrophy, your physical condition will weaken, and you are likely to gain excess weight. As a result, your general condition worsens.
Your brain also needs exercise. If you stop using your skills in solving problems, your logical, cognitive abilities, then how will your brain always be in better shape, not to mention improving your mental abilities? Think about the fact that if you constantly rely only on useful modern conveniences, then your skills in a certain area may suffer. For example, translation programs: great, but my knowledge of languages noticeably worsened as soon as I started using them.
Now I force myself to think about the translation before I find out the correct one. The same goes for spell checking and automatic correction. In truth, automatic correction is the worst thing that was invented to improve the thought process. You know that the computer will find and correct your mistakes, so you continue to print to yourself, without even thinking about it. How to spell a particular word. As a result, after several years of stable AutoCorrect and automatic spellchecking, are we the most illiterate nation? (I would like someone to research this issue.)

There are times when the use of technology is justified and necessary. But there are times when it’s better to say no to simplifications and use your brain while you can afford the luxury of time and energy. In order to keep yourself in good physical shape, it is recommended that you walk to work or climb stairs instead of the elevator several times a week as often as possible. Don't you want your brain to stay fit too? Put GPS aside from time to time, and provide service to your terrain and problem-solving skills. Keep it handy, but try finding it all yourself first. Your brain will thank you for this.
